Tethering Grace & Togetherness

Turning Over a New Leaf…

January 31, 2008 by HappyGoStuckey 5 Comments

It has recently come to my attention that I am not a good blogger. And when I say, “come to my attention” I mean one of my friends so lovingly told me in a manner of speaking, that I was a horrible blogger. Although I would have to agree with her as she is most likely, the only person who faithfully checks my blog, I do have a bit of defense to offer up. For the last five months I have been working as the Office Manager at Fidelity Bank in Wake Forest. All day long I find
myself face to face with a computer screen. I have these long periods of time where I don’t get up from my desk at all. Trust me, I am having to watch my caloric intake. Regardless of this fact, by the time I get home and am able to actually do what I want, getting on another
computer is not usually high on my priority list. This would have a lot to do with my low level of correspondence as of late. So for those of you out there who are thinking, “That silly Cindy. She got married and now she never emails anymore.” Let me assure you though that may be the case, It is not a Lance-oriented problem as much as it is a Fidelity-Oriented problem. Never the less, I have recently been made aware that I myself, LOVE to read other people’s blogs. I love to see the pictures, the funny stories and anecdotes, the things they are learning, and just normal everyday updates on how they are..etc. I love sharing a piece of your lives! And I’m sure we would all agree that the most frustrating thing in the Blogosphere is to eagerly await a friend’s recent update, only to come face to face with a post you have already read. Alas, I have become my own worst blogging nightmare. Upon looking at my own blog, I cringed to see photos of myself in shorts. Not because I am from Florida and used to dressing like summer in winter, but because the pictures were from Columbus Day. Yikes. I have skipped some major events and major holidays!! SO, in an effort to redeem myself, I will attempt to give a quick recap of the last few months. Hopefully I will be able to uphold what I have deemed my January 30, 2008 resolution: To not be a horrible blogger anymore. This one’s for you: Lindsey Isham. I love ya. 🙂

Wilmington Fun…

Wilmington in a Day…

We attempted to see the best parts of Wilmington on Columbus Day.. It was relaxing and fun to be able to spend the whole day doing very little at all and absolutely nothing that translated to work. Ahhh.. this is what Bank Holidays are for!

Once a Cheerleader… Always ashamed of it..
My Sweet Husband relentless requested this “blast from the past.”

Kilwin’s Ice Cream… There is no better ice cream!

We would have to say the same about P.T.’s 🙂 We tasted many of Wilmington’s little known delights!

Enjoying our favorite lunch spot.
We enjoyed this beachside grille with its yummy food and amazing ocean breeze. I especially loved the delicious Gazpacho (Chilled Tomato and Cucumber Soup) and Tacos El Pastor (Cubed Seasoned Pork with chopped Pineapple.) We also loved the daily supple of Fresh Guacamole and Salsa and Chips! It’s a good thing we came back after only a week!

Senor and Senora Stuckey

Lance at Chichen Itza (The Mayan Temple of the Mayan Ruins)

Our Poolside Cabana which protected us from Evil Sunburns!!!
We spent alot of time here, enjoying the breeze and reading books! So Relaxing!

The Best Bridesmaids in the World.
Seriously. Each of these girls has had an important part in my life and it was wonderful to have them present at this special time. Whether we have known each other for 25 years or just over a year… they each mean so much to me and made my Wedding Day even more special!

Legally Ready to be MARRIED!!
We had way more fun getting our marriage license than the average person. We were giddy. Seriously. You would have thought we were actually married with this piece of paper. I love that I married a man who makes everything so much fun. It makes even the little things meaningful. I am so thankful for him.

My Sweet Flower Girls

I love these three cuties so much. Deanna, Elayna and Ava Blythe definitely have had a huge piece of my heart ever since the day they were each born. All my nieces and nephews have me wrapped around their finger.

“Uncka’ Yance” with the girls.

The girls actually called Lance “France” when they first met him. Great Fun!

These little guys are my nephews.. They were wonderful Ring Bearers!

Nate and Benny Blythe are Cousins and practically best friends. It is such a blessing to see so much of their dads, my brothers Chip and Matt in them. It was so great to have almost all of my whole family present. Only one of my wonderful brothers could not be in attendance and he was greatly missed. Everyone that was there traveled a long way and it would not have been the same without them!!

I have to share a few photos of the pre-wedding festivities!!

Truth: I am not the best cookie baker in our house Truth: I am not the best cookie baker in our house. It is hands down @friar_stuck — Today he added a pinch of fresh orange zest to Oatmeal Scotchies and they taste just like childhood.

My grandma used to make these and serve them to me on a pink plate with a small glass of sprite with ice. At 39, I now realize two things— 1. She would have adored my husband and 2. these cookies go best with coffee or tea.

What cookie makes you feel eight years old again?
There’s something unusually long about the winte There’s something unusually long about the winter months when we’re in a season of slow growth and imperceptible change.

The landscape outside your window TODAY can feel like it’s your landscape forever but it’s actually not.

If the view from where you stand looks rather bleak and not at all how you hoped, can I remind you to look up?

These trees in my own backyard, captured this morning, last March, and last August, will continue changing in their own rhythmic way whether I’m watching them or not. There’s a comfort in that for me today— and perhaps for you.

Whatever looks slow and unmoving, with change almost too gradual to detect— is still very much in a pattern of forward transformation.

And these quiet days in the midst of our January-ness— we can be reminded that growth never really stops, especially in the hidden places.

This is the first complete weekend that we’ve been home since Thanksgiving. 😳 It sounds awful, especially for this homebody, but really what it means is, we’ve celebrated Thanksgiving and Christmas with family, attended one beautiful family wedding (Hey, Shelby! 👋🏻❤️) one 90th Birthday party for our beloved Granny, and had a family trip. They were all such sparkly gifts. Ones I don’t take for granted and so very different from last year.

But I do love home— and am happy to spend the second half of the day right here with this book which I’m truly enjoying. 📚❤️
The inhabitants of the Dickens Village wanted me t The inhabitants of the Dickens Village wanted me to tell you three V. important things. 1. After years of having one pub and no church, they are *finally* getting a church tomorrow, thanks to FB marketplace. And all the people said, “Amen & Huzzah.” 2. We’re still keeping Christmas over here — Though we’re slowly bending towards back to normal. The tree still lives and we’re celebrating the tenth day of Christmas with a fire & coziness before we pull out the pencils tomorrow. And finally, 3. Everyday Affogato. You might need this tiny pick me-up in your life. One shot of hot espresso poured over a tiny serving of vanilla ice cream. Please and Thank you.✨ #merrymerrystuckeys
2021 was a year of change for nearly all of us. Mu 2021 was a year of change for nearly all of us. Much of which we are happily taking with us into 2022.🥂

Nine squares is not sufficient to reflect the ways we’ve grown and changed, but it is a glimpse of the graces of the year behind us.

Not pictured: waking up to find our children taller and suddenly at our eye level, new laugh lines on our faces, sweltering pool days, fireplace dinners, Marco Polo chats with friends, family weddings & visits, mountain air breathed, books read, new jobs begun, school days, approximately 52 pizza nights, new rhythms & schedules, house repairs, car issues, and God always before us, behind us and within us. Soli deo Gloria. #thebestisyettocome

Do these Mince Pies make me look One-Quarter Briti Do these Mince Pies make me look One-Quarter British?

Truth be told, my grandma always used the jarred mincemeat and I wasn’t a fan as a child. Only last year did Lance and my Mom collaborate in the kitchen to try out homemade mincemeat filling and let me just say, we are never quitting these! 😍

The filling we use is from @bonappetitmag and it’s really good. It’s a gorgeous blend of apples, dried fruits (cherries, apricots, sultanas, figs, currants) with apple cider, spices, and a few other things. No meat, though.

Happy Christmas from the Jolly Old Stuckeys! 🇬🇧🎄❤️
